Tips for hiring a photographer: Why Quality and Coverage should be a Priority

In my line of work I see many clients placing an emphasis on "what they will receive" in products for their money. Which is a legitimate desire, because as a consumer comparing products is what we are taught to do. When shopping for a new dress there may be two dresses that you really like but only one fits your budget, so it becomes your choice. That's being a smart shopper. But with photography your emphasis should be placed on the quality of work and here's why:

When hiring a photographer for your wedding day, look for someone who is passionate about photography and someone who's work you admire. My goal is not to meet the expectations of my clients but exceed them. I want to capture every moment and create timeless and creative portraits that they will love for the rest of their lives. Ultimately, photography Products are nothing without great pictures to put in them. If you are shopping around and come across two photographers that meet your budget ,compare them. Look at their work first, then products.

Here's an example of packages you may see while shopping around:

Photographer 1

$2450.00

6 hours coverage

Photographer + assistant

Full resolution images on a DVD

Photographer 2

$2450.00

6 hours coverage

1 Photographer

1-10x10 20 Page Album

Full resolution images on a DVD.

Instinctively, you might say, I'm getting a better deal with Photographer 2. However, I would encourage you to go with the photographer whose work you like better and can trust with your wedding day. Because if Photographer 2's work is not exceptional then the album will not be either. Those moments cannot be re-captured but you can always upgrade products later on especially if you have the rights to the photo's. You can have your photographer create an album for you or prints later on or you can do it yourself.

Sacrificing coverage for products is not a wise choice either. Adding time for quality shots that takes away money for a product would be a decision that would not be regretted later. Once the wedding is over those moments are lost if not captured in a picture. Photography aside from videography is the only thing that will help you remember your special day forever. How your photographer photographs your event will alter your memories of it and may be the only way some people view your wedding.

I take pride in my work and pick out great albums and products to present to my clients If they are not affordable at the moment but the client can afford my services then that's always something they can purchase at a later time.

So in summery; products are meaningless if the pictures inside them are not exceptional. Un-captured moments are lost but changing or adding products may be done any time after the wedding..
